Whakarewarewa Forest Trails

The Whakarewarewa forest covers an area of approximately 3.5 square kilometres.

We intend to cover the forest in traps, staging this over a number of years. The initial area around the summit was funded by Red Stag and completed in 2018, Kawerau Engineering and Red Stag then funded the expansion of this network to cover around 32000 square metres in 2019.

2019 also saw the Tikitapu (Blue) Lake area extensively trapped by the Univsersity of the 3rd Age group with the entire perimeter of the lake now protected

In 2020 we were successful in attaining funding from the grassroots trust which has allowed expansion down the entirety of the Tihi-O-Tawa native forest corridor.
