Waipa Stream
The Waipa Stream is accessible to all and provides a pristine riverside environment along the Puarenga Trail. It is our aim to provide extensive trapping along the riverbanks to provide a safe haven for bird life and a more enjoyable recreational environment for those utilizing the area.
In the long term we hope to provide a suitable environment for native fish (Koaro) once pest populations have been reduced to a low level. A dam located further down the Waipa Stream prevents trout and other invasive fish species accessing the stream further up. This will hopefully create a safe environment where Koaro can thrive. This would be a unique feature in the Te Arawa Lakes region.
